A Message From our Chief Clinical Officer...

Vericare strives to provide exceptional value to our customers. Our single-minded focus on quality, appropriate utilization, and responsiveness to client needs is why our customers perceive us as the provider of choice when seeking behavioral health services for the residents of skilled nursing facilities and assisted living settings. This vision becomes a reality because of the way each Vericare employee interacts with residents and staff of the skilled nursing environments in which we are privileged to serve as their mental health providers.

Vericare clinicians bring value to residents and facilities

We are valued when we listen as we seek to understand the sources of psychic distress that arise from the myriad of challenges confronting the person. Clinicians experience enormous personal and professional satisfaction when a resident, who believes that life is no longer worth living due to physical decline, ever-increasing and progressively deteriorating medical conditions, loss of a spouse, children, friends, a community where one once lived and the social support from them, sees that there are still ways to experience meaning. Depression and despair can be replaced by satisfaction and even serenity depending on one’s inner attitude. Guiding a resident through such a transition takes a special person with a highly-developed sense of how to coach and model an alternative response to what seems like insurmountable challenges of aging. Vericare’s biopsychophysical approach to ameliorating the distress brought about by losing control of one’s ability to manage one’s life and its challenges successfully integrates psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological interventions. Our psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses apply their knowledge of psychotherapeutics and their observation of the effects of such treatments to arrive at the optimal therapeutic regimen so that the resident has the highest quality of life while living in a communal setting in ways that enables other residents and staff to feel safe and comfortable as they pursue their activities and duties.

Vericare brings value to our providers

We respect our providers and their expertise. We involve you as collaborators when designing ways to improve our approach to care and documentation. We focus on outcomes and appropriate utilization because it is professionally responsible to do so. Our approach to documentation is very pragmatic. We structure our forms to enable providers to be cued to the critical points that third-party payers require as part of claims oversight and payment. We do so in ways that are easy to complete. We support and encourage electronic completion and submission of documentation, a process that speeds payment to you and makes editing efficient. More time is available for patient care and for earning income for this care. We also recognize that the skilled nursing environment and the mental health needs of its residents are new practice settings and clinical populations for many of you. Our value to you comes from our local managers and clinical liaisons who provide orientation, training and guidance as you begin to expand your scope of practice. Our Start Right program is designed to set the foundation for building a successful clinical and financial practice as a Vericare employee. Our value-add to you extends beyond the first months with Vericare. We recognize how difficult it is to set aside time in your busy professional and personal lives for continuing education. We offer APA-approved CE credits as part of our regional Bi-Monthly provider meetings, as well as online opportunities for professional education. We also recognize the isolation that comes from private practice and from often being the sole Vericare clinician in the settings where you work. We seek to connect our providers to Vericare through the provider web, a secure intranet portal. This portal is available exclusively for Vericare clinicians and is an online resource library. The portal provides:

 • Access to clinical forms and to documentation guides, tip sheets, policies, and tools for managing your patient responsibilities.

 • Outlines for in-services to help the staff of the skilled nursing facility better understand and manage patient behavior.

 • Links to various professional organizations’ websites and to other resource centers to help you research questions that arise in

your practice. (The link to Flash Code, an ICD-9 coding resource, and to ICD9Data.com can be particularly helpful when trying to

   resolve a coding dilemma).

The portal is also where the archive of Clinical Reflections resides. These periodic communications address mission critical professional and business issues for the company. They often alert our provider community of a clinical topic of particular interest and a process or a policy that we as an organization want to promote. We are also establishing an online Clinical Forum where providers can post clinical questions inviting Vericare clinicians to share their insights about the topic. This is a simple example of leveraging basic internet technology to access the Vericare community of skilled clinicians in such a manner that our providers, their patients and the staff who care for the residents will all benefit from our collective experience.

Vericare brings value through you our providers and in turn we bring value to you. Our interests are intertwined for a few hours a week to many hours each day. Like individual threads woven together to form a tapestry or individual thin strands of metal woven into bands of steel capable of supporting suspension bridges, each individual contributes to bringing beauty and function to our world. So too, each Vericare clinician contributes to the enterprise of helping elderly residents of skilled nursing facilities find a measure of beauty and function in their daily experience because of the skill that each brings in every interaction with residents and staff. This is how value is created.
